Woman, 36, Fighting For Life After Hiking Trip – Patch

LOW AND BURBANKS GRANT, N.H. — An ill Bloomfield, CT woman is fighting for her life after being rescued from a New Hampshire hiking trail Sunday night via Army helicopter.

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department has identified the woman as 36-year-old Eva Mok of Bloomfield.

According to N.H. fish and game, department officers received a call at about 5:20 p.m. of a hiker “suffering from an unknown medical condition on Valley Way Trail.”

Mok, reportedly, had hiked up the Airline Trail when she started to feel ill.

Mok and a hiking companion, according to New Hampshire officials, rested for a while in an attempt to recover.

But after several hours, the pair opted to try and hike back down the trail via the Valley Way Trail, fish and game officials said.

According to officials, Mok was only able to make it about three-tenths of a mile and she had to stop.

That’s when a call for additional help was made and a group of volunteers responded to rescue her.

New Hampshire state officials said volunteers from the Appalachian Mountain Club, Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue and Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue activated to help state authorities.

“While rescuers were hiking the 3.5 miles to reach Mok, her condition deteriorated such that a call to the Army National Guard was made requesting an emergency helicopter evacuation,” reads a statement issued Monday morning by the State of New Hampshire.

As a result, a flight crew was scrambled and flew up from Concord, N.H.

“They were able to conduct a nighttime rescue operation successfully hoisting the patient into the helicopter at approximately 10:45 p.m.,” N.H. fish and game said in a statement.

Because of fuel limitations, the helicopter landed at nearby Gorham Airport where Mok was transferred to the Gorham Ambulance and transported to Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin, N.H., with a life-threatening condition.

From there, she was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical center in Lebanon, N.H., state officials said.
