A Westport man was found dead Friday morning after a hiking trip in New York, according to the New York Department of Environmental Conservation.
Thomas Howard, 61, was found dead in the High Peaks Wilderness area in New York at around 10:30 a.m., according to a statement from the New York DEC and the New York State Police.
Howard went hiking on Mt. Colden in North Elba, N.Y., on March 11. He was reported missing on March 16 after he failed to return from his trip, New York State Police said in a release earlier this week.
Before Howard was found Friday morning, state police said his last known location was the Marcy Dam lean-to.
New York state officials said Howard’s family “wishes to express their gratitude to the community and the searchers for their support. The family asks for privacy as they grieve the loss of their loved one.”
