Mountain-lovers seeking a bolthole within half an hour of a ski field have options to consider in the Queenstown Lakes district.

Mt Cardrona Station alpine village has released its fourth neighbourhood – with smaller sections, priced from $495,000 – cheaper than earlier offerings.

Owners will have access to nearly 370 hectares of high country land that won’t be developed, and will be able to use 30km of hiking and biking trails.

The first 11 of 26 lots in this neighbourhood, called The Ridges, range from 300 square metres to 570sqm.

* The luxury market that’s untouched by the property downtown – so far
* Trust to sell homes in Arrowtown at a quarter of $1.6m median house price

Mt Cardrona Station’s developers plan to have 437 total lots completed by 2030.

Station co-owner Chris Morton, director of Morton Property Group, says the sections will appeal to people who either want to retire there or to have a second home, particularly to “outdoorsy, energetic people”.

“You can walk out your door and either go for five minutes or walk for five hours. You get lost or walk for five minutes to the cafe.”

A communal centre, called The Homestead, will be built by the first quarter of 2024, and will comprise a gym, swimming pool, restaurant and business centre, Morton says.

The Woolshed is one of three ready-made design plans that buyers can use if they don’t prefer to engage their own architect.
