Cape Breton hiking club earns Hike Nova Scotia’s highest honour – Saltwire

CHÉTICAMP, N.S. — A Cape Breton-based hiking club, Les Hikers, has received Hike Nova Scotia’s highest award at the annual summit in Chéticamp.

In a June 6 release, Hike Nova Scotia said Les Hikers are the recipients of the 2022 Summit Award.

The annual award is presented to an organization or individual who has demonstrated leadership and commitment to the growth and development of hiking in Nova Scotia.

In 2017, Les Hikers was formed with just a handful of members and has since grown to have over 2,000 Facebook followers.

The group has led many hikes throughout the Cape Breton region and has signed an MOU with Cape Breton Highlands National Park to help promote winter hiking and snowshoeing at the park.

The award was presented at Hike Nova Scotia’s annual Hiking Summit, which took place from June 3 to 5.
